January 11, 2016 – Week 66

This week has been really really hard after all of the stuff that has been going on here. We had a lot of investigators and unfortunately none of them ended up going to church….. again, which really sucks. It’s been really, really hard trying to get things put together and finding new investigators, but we ended up finding a family last night which was a pure miracle.

Things have been pretty hard and it just seems like this week everything has completely fallen apart which really really sucks. The misison is  really hard and there is a lot of stress. And I feel like I have alot of stress. People are really just not listening to us and it sucks.  But oh well… we had a man that wanted to tell us that Joseph Smith wasn’t a prophet and I can’t stand it when people tell me that. It sucks. I get mad and my companion just kept trying to discuss with him and I just told him we have to go, so we ended up leaving. But we did find a famliy of 5 last night that really needs help! We were knocking on doors, and then a 14 year old came out and we asked him if we can share with him and his family a message and he said hold on. He went inside for like a minute and opened the door and said come on in. We taught them the gospel of Jesus Christ.  She told us at the end God answers prayers really fast because I just prayed and ask God to send someone to teach my sister and help her and her famliy issues (her sister’s husband had kicked her out of the house and they have been married for 36 years) and we told them that we are sent by God to be there in that moment. The spirit of God was there and it was great to be able to teach them and we are going to go back on Wednesday. It’s so awesome. Also, they live right across from our ward mission leader! So I really hope we can help them progress to the point that they can get baptized.
Our famliy of 8 that we were teaching basically fell apart because thier son came in and starting saying a whole bunch of crap about how all the churches are the same and they are all good and all this nonsense. We explained him that is not the case. Hopefully we can be able to get that famliy back but we will see what we can do.
Anyways bad news. Last night we were walking and I really jsut woke up with some issues. my spine started hurting and I would say my back, but it’s like my upper and lower neck and then my legs started hurting. I’m going to talk to Hermana Garcia and hopefully I can get sent to a chiropractor, but we’ll see what happens. I don’t really feel too hot anyways on top of that, butI’ll live! I love you guys and hopefully all will be good! I’ll talk to you all next week and I love you!

January 4, 2016 – Week 65

This week we had a lot of stuff to do with trying to get all of our baptismal dates and everything organized so that they can come to church.  Unfortunately none of them came because of various reasons, but it is what it is. We are ready to be back at it again and to try it over this week starting today which is always exciting, but after getting torn apart by mission leaders its pretty hard to keep going. Me and my companion are doing everything we can to find new investigators and to get them to go to church. We honestly now have a stronger testimony of satan and of the church, because there is always an opposition in all things. BUT OUR INVESTIGATORS LOVE THE THINGS OF THIS WORLD MORE THAN THEY DO JESUS AND GOD.

On top of all the stuff that is going on this week and in the mission life, we are actually doing pretty well. Health wise, as a 2016 goal I think all of the Americans want to do exercise, well I’m one of those Americans. I started out by using this ab roller thing and it had 2 wheels and a handle bar that you pretty much sit on your knees and roll out with it and then you roll up with it and it actually just tears your abs apart so hopefully I can always use that thing so I can look like Channing Tatum here in the near future. (;

The president is really helping me alot with the work down here and what I really need to do as a missionary to help get these people to understand that this is the only true church on the face of the earth. It’s really hard but it’s really awesome and I really enjoy it. We really are working hard, every week we have the best stats in the zone, but we have our difficulties as well as any other missionry but we are really trying hard to do all we can to get the work going and to turn this branch into a ward here in the upcoming future.
Tell Grandma and Pawpaw I said hi and that I love them and can’t wait to go fishing with them again! I got some sweet hook ups here in Mexico for when we visit here, from boats and four wheelers, to great mexican food, and lodging, well concrete…. anyways I love all of you and hope that you guys all have a great week.
PS… despite everything, the church is still true.

Elder Wilkes Testimony of the Book of Mormon

The Book of Mormon is the most correct book on planet earth.

It literally is the cornerstone of our religion. If we had taken all the bibles out of the world, our church will be the only standing church on the face of the earth. I love the Book of Mormon. It is the answer to all of our problems. If anyone has any question on anything write the question down on a Book of Mormon and read it and by the time you are done, your answer will be solved. Then by the end of your life you’ll have a full bookshelf of them suckers.

I have given out hundreds and hundreds of Books of Mormon on my mission and for every single person that has read it, it has changed their life. It literally is MORE Jesus Christ put into our lives and when He is in our lives more, we are blessed. The Book of Mormon is true. We are commanded to read it and to follow its teachings. It is going to be one of the books we are judged by in the last day. We need to read it, it is a nessisity of our lives and the anchor of our church and our beliefs.

The other day I had an experience where some gentil church dude (a church that’s only in Tijuana, San Diego, and Tucson) wanted to tell me the Book of Mormon isn’t true. I told him he was wrong, but I gave him and his wife one anyways. I told them to read it and that it contained the fullness of the gospel. I really hope they read it and gain a testimony of it.

As missionaries that is our goal – to let people gain a testimony of the Book of Mormon and its truthfulness, just as the introduction and Moroni 10 states. Read it, meditate it and pray about it. If you do so you will gain a testimony of the Book of Mormon, which means that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God, and that our Savior is the Savior of the world, even Jesus Christ, and that we are His kingdom built on the earth today in the preparation of the second coming.

The Book of Mormon is the only thing I ENJOY reading, along with some other church books because it changed my life forever. If I could go back in time to change just one thing, it would be to really listen to my parents when they told me to read the Book of Mormon.  But now I enjoy the true doctrine that it teaches. It holds the very keys to our personal salvation.

December 28, 2015 – Week 64

Hey Mom, it was really great talking to you guys at Christmas as well. About the guy with one leg – he had actually ended up going to sonora with his family so we haven’t been able to get to teach him, and on top of that at church this week we didn’t have a single investigator that we were teaching show up which was really really crappy and sad at the same time because we had worked really hard to do so, but for whatever reason they didn’t come. We did have about 50 or 60 Americans that ended up coming to the branch this week and it was actually really cool to have them all there it kinda felt like the Jacksonville Beach ward when they were translating in Spanish for that time.

You should go ahead and send the bday package because it gets here in about a week. I would like Nike golf pants because it’s going to be summer again soon and I really like those pants. They are sporty so they don’t get too hot on my legs and what not, like i want some tan ones and some blue ones. and then some cool ties like you sent me before.

I was really glad to be able to talk to you guys as well this Christmas. I always look forward to it and it was great. And yeah you are right until the next time in 5 months and the time usually for that goes by super duper fast.  I love you guys have a great week!!! (:

December 21, 2015 – Week 63

My companion I are really awesome together. Mom, I just want to say to you that this week we have only worked 4 days from all the traveling and everything. But we have found a family of 7 and we have put a baptism date with them and it is pretty sweet. Hopefully we can be able to be able to baptize them here in the near future! We also have a total of 17 baptismal dates and we are working really really really hard to be able to get everything in order so that we can have a lot of success here in the mission. I’m physically tired and it feels pretty good.

My thoughts are going to be short because I’m going to be on Skype with y’all pretty soon but I want to know that you guys are loved by me and that holy crap mom you are looking hot!!!!! You have lost so much freaking weight.! It’s pretty awesome! Anyways Friday morning I’ll be on Skype in my time so it will be about 1 o’clock y’alls time!!! love you guys so much can’t wait till friday and yes I got your box!!!

December 14, 2015 – Week 62

Dear Familia:

We are doing a posada here as well and I’m really looking forward to this season as it’s absolutly great! I can’t wait for everything awesome that is going to be going on this Christmas time. I apologize for last week as well I kinda cut y’all off but it wasn’t my fault. The computer machines were in the bus station and you have to put 10 pesos in. I got one of the 10 that were there to work and the others didn’t, but after the 30 minute time was up it cut off and I tried to do it again but it wouldn’t accept my money -stupid thing. So I didn’t get to finish my message of EXCITEMENT for the week that was coming.

This week has been absolutely amazing. Unfortunately we really haven’t had any time to do our regular missionary work because of all the traveling. I always forget that I am 5 hours away from Tijuana and 2 and a half hours away from the nearest missionaries and zone, so we have spent about 5 days of this week just traveling to Mexicali and Tijuana. We haven’t had that much time to be able to work which sucks, but it is what it is and it has been a wonderful experience! This week as well we have to go to Tijuana again because we have to renew our visas on Wednesday so we are going to be spending days traveling again. The good news is that tomorrow we have a baptism! I’m so excited and it’s wonderful; she’s a great lady her name is F*** and she is FINALLY getting baptized.
The cultural celebration was absolutely beautiful. I literally saw everyone from my mission, all the famlies and the people I have taught and baptized. Two people that I baptized were participating in the cultural celebration and dances.  It was wonderful! We also had 2 investigatores from here in San Felipe that participated and hopefully their mom will let them get baptized soon. Their mon was able to go to the cultural celebration as well.
Mom, I have never seen so many youth that are strong in the church in one place, even in a different country.  It was amazing!  I was in tears, because so many people just wanted to follow Christ. There were literrally 3000 or so kids that participated, it was WONDERFUL! When we were walking back to our seats they wouldn’t let us pass by, we were a group of about 50 people or so right there and we were in the right place at the right time, it was when Pres. Uchtdorf and Elder Oaks got out of thier car to go up into the stadium they said Hello to us and it was great. I felt the spirit instantly and it was powerful. I felt like I was going to pass out like a little girl at at a One Direction concert – it was AWESOME!
The celebration was a good hour and a half and it was amazing, then to top it all off the dedication on Sunday was beautifully done. With the corner stone celebration and the dedication, it was awesome and I have never felt the spirit so strongly in my LIFETIME!! I can definitely say that my faith has about exceeded the limit, I feel like there is going to be a tree branch that is going to sprout out of my head pretty soon. When we sang The Spirit of God I couldn’t do it and I could barely do the Hosanna shout because I was filled with immense joy and the Spirit of God. The people here have been waiting a long time for the temple here in Tijuana. Before the people couldn’t go to san diego because of the difficulty of going into the states so they had to travel 12 HOURS by a bus that is really expensive to go to the temple in Hermosillo. Now they can almost walk to the temple. It’s wonderfully, beautifully amazing!! Mom you have no idea how great it feels. I have now been a part of 3 temple dedications. I can’t wait until we get a temple in Jacksonville!
I’m going to be doing Skype with y’all Friday morning Christmas day, at about 10am my time which will be 1 pm your time and I got my Skype account ready! I love you guys so much and this weekend has been amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
