December 7, 2015 – Week 61

This week is our transfer week. I’m currently writing to you on a computer from a bus station, and I can barely type from all the cigarette ashes, coffee spills, and nasty unwashed hands, that have gone down the spaces of this keyboard. but it is what it is.

I just received an Elder that is in my generation in the mission, ELDER MORENO. He’s from Alpine, Utah, but was born in Cuernavaca, Mexico, but he’s American and I’m really excited about this opportunity. The president said he did it with a purpose. There are a lot of leaders that are leaving the mission and he’s doing what he is doing to me for a wise purpose, which i know not.

Me and my American compa, Elder Moreno are ready to kick butt and we are going to turn San Felipe upside down and turn it into a pot of gold with baptisms. I have a lot of goals and stuff that I can finally do, because I’m with someone who is ready to work as hard as I am. Also, I am going to give it absolutely everything now that I have a companion that supports me and is willing to do the same.

Some of my converts are great – I try to keep in touch with them but sometimes it is really, really difficult with the hour of writing time that they give to us, but I do try my best. I’m going to try to write some letters to give to them.

The temple experience was absolutely great. I’m going to send you a memory card but  I don’t know when I’m going to send it because I want to send y’all something for Christmas and along with it something for the house. When I do I will send my card with about 1300 picas!!! So hopefully it will turn out good!

Also we just received a bunch of the “A Savior is Born” church promotional give away cards so that the people can watch the video.

November 30, 2015 – Week 60

This week has been one of the best weeks in my whole entire life! It has been absolutely great. In response to dad’s question about my health –  I am considerably healthy as you can say I have lost about another good 4ish pounds or so so im almost down to about 225 which I feel pretty good about and I’m starting to get in a little more shape to my body and I feel really good. Today I bought a big bag of cranberries and I really enjoy them as they are really good for you. Sometimes I do eat a bunch of crap, but not everyday. haha But all is well with that and I’m not hurt or anything.

I really hope that you guys had a great trip to Cartegena. The  other day I was thinking about you and dad and your future misison and had a feeling that you guys are going to be Mission Presidents in Bolivia! So you guys better prepare your spanish a little bit more because you are going to have to speak it there if my feelings and calculations are correct!

I have a little bad news. I got something made for you guys for Christmas but it never came so they have to give me the money back. I’m going to try to get it again and send it to y’all, but I don’t think that will be for a little bit of time so hopefully I can get it again.
I still havent received your package yet but I’m pretty sure it takes a little bit to get here because we really are in the middle of no where. They said that they were going to check there mail today so hopefully it gets here pretty soon.
I’ll have to send some pics, but this week we had a baptism and a confirmation and it was absolutely great! It was wonderful to baptize someone as we have had a little bit of time since we have baptized. Also this week was the temple trip and we went on Saturday. We had to be at the church at 4:30 in the morning and it was great! We were really excited to go and we only got about 4 hours of sleep because we had to get up really really early but we had about 70 people from the branch go and it was really really awesome to be able to go to the open house. The bus ride was about 5 hours or a little bit more than that and we were there on the temple grounds for about 4 hours and we took a lot of picturews and it was absolutely amazing to go there. The temple is so beautiful inside and out! I really felt the spirit when we went. It was gorgeous!! The artwork in the endowment rooms is abolutly amazing and the staircases in the temple on both sides with the artwork of Jesus is just stunning and beautiful. I can’t wait to do a session and to wait till it’s ready to be dedicated it’s so incredibly amazing! I also received a confirmation that we are going to be able to go to the cultural celebration which is in about 2 weeks and it’s going to be so wonderful that we are able to go. Deiter F. Uchtdorf is going to be there and other Apostles and also he is going to be dedicating the temple! I’m so excited Mom!! The temple is absolutely amazing and beautiful. Just from the Temples, I know that the Church is true. You can feel the Lord’s Prescence there. It’s so wonderful –  words cannot describe how great it is! I hope y’all can go and we can go there together one day! I love you guys and hope y’all had a great trip. Someone gave us pumpkin pie and also some turkey and mash potatoes for Sunday so it was great! I wonder what grandma and all them did?

November 23, 2015 – Week 59

I have a message for all the people that you see down there in Colombia more for the kids that you are going to help out on Tuesday –

Hopefully you can get this message soon and you can send it to the kids there.  I’m really happy that you guys are doing that for the people down there. It really makes our Father in Heaven happy as well, just like it says in Mosiah 2:17 – when ye are in the service of your fellow being, ye are in the service of God.
This week has been pretty good.  My companion and I have been working really hard to get ready for the baptisms that we have. Unfortunately we are only going to be baptizing 1 person because the others didn’t come to church  which really sucks because we didn’t have a single one come, but it is what it is.
I’m really excited for this week because we have the chance to be able to go to the Temple and we are going to be going this Saturday!!! I absolutely can’t wait! It’s on the last day of the open house schedule and it’s going to be absolutely awesome!! Also this week coming up we have to go to a conference with the president in Mexicali so we have alot of stuff to be getting ready for this coming week! A baptism, Mexicali, and then to top it off on Saturday we have to go to Tijuana and we are going with our branch.
Then we have a baptism this Thursday – her name is C****** and the church somehow lost her records. We got permission to baptize her again so we are going to baptize her on Thursday!
Hopefully while you guys are in Colombia y’all can have misionary experiences. This week is Thanksgiving as well and I’m pretty excited even though we are going to be going without it because no one has invited us to anything. But there is an American named Sister Christensen who said she is going to be bringing me turkey and pumpkin pie which is awesome! So I’m pretty excited about that.  Y’all are going to be eating beans and rice with chicken on thanksgiving so I’m pretty excited about that for all of you! Unless you can find a KFC just like in Jamaica. Anyway, I hope y’all have a blast there in Colombia and I can’t wait to go on the trip the following year.
Love y’all and have a great week!!

A Missionary Christmas

Darin - Christmas Missionary Tag

I skipped the sales after Thanksgiving. The thrill just wasn’t there.
No pictures taken with Santa Claus. My decorating has no flair.
His presents are shoes, shirts, and ties, two suits and socks … no fun.
I’ve bought him all white clothes because this year I’m giving Christ my son.
I’ve spent more time in the temple, my testimony stirred.
I’ve re-read November’s Ensign, felt strength come from His words.
Our family prays more frequently, my tears are quick to run.
Abraham seems closer because this year I’m giving Christ my son.
I wonder how those Lamanite mothers gave their sons to war?
Or how those pioneers choose Zion – their sacrifice was so much more.
My loss will be his presence. I’ll miss his smile a ton.
For two years we’ll pray for him. I’m giving Christ my son.
I stare at his face when he’s not looking. I memorize his eyes, their shine.
He’s always hungered for the part of him that makes his soul divine.
The stories and the lessons he always heard.
His choice and mine are one.
I’ll put my faith in God’s hand. This year I’m giving him my son.
Past gifts have lost their glitter. I think I finally understand.
Christ’s birth should be celebrated by giving him a hand.
It’s because I know Christ lives and reigns that all his packing’s done
My gift has taken years to make. This year I’m giving Christ my son.
I know there’s One who understands the sacrifice I’m making.
Who knows the gift I willingly give, the toll it will be taking.
For He has done it all before. Greater love – there could be none.
For years ago God gave to me His only begotten son.
The hands I washed, the hands I held, the hands I taught to pray –
Now knock on doors to find the ones who will listen to what he’ll say.
Because I know Christ needs him until all the gathering’s done.
My gift has taken years to make. This year I’m giving Christ my son.
