October 19, 2015 – Week 54

Mexico TJ Mission with Elder Holland
This week has been a little bitter sweet. Well the crappy part was is that the couple that we were going to to marry pretty much backed away and they just make up a lot of excuses.  I have a lot of patience and don’t mind, but unfortunately my companion does not. So he pretty much just dropped them. The wife came to church with her daughter, but her husband worked and was not able to make it so whatever. They didn’t get married and they didn’t get baptized. I was pretty bummed out. Also this week my companion tore his foot muscle and we couldn’t work for like 3 days because he couldn’t walk and it was the literally most boringest time of my life, but now everything is good and we are back up working.

The Holland meeting was absolutely great and it was a 2 day trip. We left here on Friday at noon and we took a big pizza on the bus and then we fasted. It was great! Then we arrived in Mexicali to the stake center and I saw Fernando and Jose, some of my great friends that I love and are amazing. Unfortunately I couldn’t talk to them because my companion has no patience for anything and needed to buy something so I couldn’t talk to them for too long and I kinda felt really bad, but oh well it is what it is. Well after 5 hours in a bus all day we got to Tijuana Friday night at like 8 o clock and then we headed to another missionaries house and then in the morning we went to the church and Holland came at like 9ish and we took a picture with him and it was absolutely awesome. Then we got to hear from him and from Benjamin de Hoyos from the Seventy and another Elder from the Seventy, but I forgot what his name was. It’s like Montejon or something like that, but it was absolutely great. Holland spoke with us, just the missionaries and it was awesome. It was with all of the missionaries in the mission and it was absolutely great and awesome!

He talked a lot about being missionaries for forever and how we need to always keep our conversion, becsuse it makes him sad when a returned missionary goes inactive and he doesn’t understand why it happens. It really strengthed my testimony and it was awesome to hear him and I got to shake his hand as well and I immediatetly felt the spirit. It was wonderful to see him and all of the missionaries in the mission and all of my old friends like Elder Larsen that I have not seen in about 9 months! He is awesome! Tell his mom I said hi!

Also I had to give a talk on Sunday and I talked about sacrifice. I’ll tell you more about it the follwing week because right now I’m running out of time and we gotta take off and I’ll send you some more stuff the following week because right now I dont have too much time.  Anyways, I love y’all so much! Thank you for everything.

October 12, 2015 – Week 53

Hey mom and dad and family around,

It feels really great to be at the one year mark in my mission, but I have a little less than one year in my mission now and it’s pretty sad because thoughts of marriage and children creep into my mind. Just think about it in 3 years or less, mom and dad can be GRANDPARENTS!!!! It’s pretty crazy, but I try not to think about it all.

This week we have a crap ton of stuff to do! We have to go San Luis to marry a couple because here it is way to expensive to do it for whatever reason and then we are going to be headed up there to marry them and then it will be a crap ton cheaper and a lot faster and they can get married in the same day! We have planned this out for Thursday. Then on Friday we have to go back up to Mexicali to get on the bus up there and then we are headed to Tijuana to go hear from Elder Holland. I’m freaking stoked to be able to go up there for this awesome activity! It’s going to be so exciting and I’m so glad that I have the chance to hear from an APOSTLE of the Lord! It’s thrilling and exciting that we have the opportunity to hear from him!

Anyway, I wanted to let y’all know that I love you and that everything is going well here in this area. There were about 20 Americans that came to church this Sunday and some of them gave their testimonies in English so I had to translate for them in Spanish! It was a cool experience and sometimes it sucks because I don’t know how to translate certain words from English to Spanish so sometimes I just have to make up something and it’s pretty funny, but it went really well!

I’m also so happy that Tennessee was able to pull off the win at Georgia! I sure hope that they can beat Alabama this year that would be absolutely amazing and just like the old days! I’ll sure be praying for it!

This week should be amazing and it should go great. I love all of you! (:

October 5, 2015 – Week 52

Dear Mom and Dad,

I have been pondering a lot on the words of our General Authorities from this past conference. I even took 16 pages of notes! I really loved the PONDERIZE idea. This week my scripture is 2Nephi 2.26-27. And how do you like the 20 year goal?? Should we do it as a family? I think so – I started today.
I was really blown away by the words of Jeffrey R.Holland about the role of mothers and their importance.
I know it isn’t Mother’s Day, but we can pretend because everyday should be Mother’s Day! I really have been born by my mother. I also like at the end how he talks about sin and having to stand in front of our mother and Jesus Christ. It really makes me scared about that one (only because I had to do it a couple of times and it isn’t fun). I sure caused mom a lot of heartache in my short 20 years of life. A crap ton of heartache! But she BORE with me to get through it. When I am hurting she is hurting and when she is hurting I am as well.
Mom this is the only time that I am going to admit that YES YOU LOVE ME MORE, because not only you did you deal with me being in the womb for 9 months and traveling down to the local Kmart to buy chocolate – because in the womb I’m sure I loved chocolate as well, but you also bore me for my 20 years of life and for the rest of the time for which I will live. I have the most beautiful Mom in the whole wide world and the most loving and caring as well!
The other day I read a funny quote about lawyers. Marion G. Romney once said when he was a boy, he went up to the gravestone and it read Here Lies Joe Brown, The lawyer, and A Good Friend. He shortly said after why did they bury 3 men in the same grave? hahaha it was pretty funny! Anyway, to all the mothers out there that read my posts I want to thank all of you for your wonderful service and especially my Grandmas as well from both sides. I love all of you!
This past week was a pretty good week, but this next week should be even better because we have 2 baptisms on Saturday and we are marrying 2 people. It’s going to be pretty dope! Hopefully the one guy can pass his interview because he has killed someone in the past. But he’s really cool. I told my companion that the guy is going to have to write a letter to the First Presidency asking for baptism but he told me that no he doesn’t. So we will see what will happen to him this week.
I have been having a couple of problems with my companion as well because he treats me like complete crap, and I’m sick of it.  He also does a little bit of bullying to me as well. Sometimes we get along fine and others not so much. I really just quit talking to him because there is no point if he’s going to be like that. I really want a different companion because he’s lazy and doesnt do much either. It sucks because I want to work and to baptize, but he is lagging and dragging me down not just physically, but also spiritually and mentally. I even think I’m gaining a little bit of depression from this as well. So please pray for me ): I’ve had a lot of bad thoughts lately as well. I told my mission president as well a little about this today in my email to him so hopefully something will work out.
But anyway, the Lord’s work will continue with me! I love all of you guys have a great and wonderful day and don’t forget to ponderize!

September 28, 2015 – Week 51

TENNEFAILURE. It really upsets me about Tennessee Football this year. From what I heard form you guys I really hope that next year will be the year and I will continue hating Florida all of my life. I can’t believe that they had to give up being 4-0and go to being 2-2. It doesn’t make any sense and I don’t understand why it is so hard to be a Tennessee football fan in general. They always upset us. I cant wait til the day where we win like a national team again. I’ll keep praying for it! So hopefully everything will be better for the rest of the season.

Anyway, this week was pretty good. We had to go to Mexicali for a conference with the Mission President and then afterward we had interviews with him and everything went really, really well. We are really getting everything prepared to get ready for the temple being dedicated! It’s really exciting to be getting ready for the majestic event that is about to take place. The prophet Brigham Young taught that the bands of hell are unleashed right before the temple dedication. So satan is pissed the flip off right now because of this exciting event. I really think I’ll be going to it from here in San Felipe, but we will see where I end up going to in a month! I think I will be staying here in San Felipe for a litle bit and hopefully so.
Things hve been going pretty good here.  This past Sunday we had a branch conference and the mission president and his wife came down here to San Felipe and they talked to us and it was really sweet.  Sacrament meeting was 2 hours long and I got really tired pretty fast having to translate everything that is taking place, but this week should be a break for me. It should be absolutely awesome with this General Conference and it’s going to piss off satan even more having 3 Apostles called to the Quorum but it’s going to be a wonderful experience.
I just wanted to let you guys know that yesterday meant I had a year left in the mission and today means I have less than a year left, and holy flip the time goes by so flippin fast I don’t even know what to do! But hopefully this next year will be better!
And it all begins with General Conference.  I remember the last October General Conference and it really comes so fast! Pretty soon I’m going to be talking to you guys on Skype again!
I want to let you guys know that I started writing a book here in the mission about this past week and it relates basic doctrine and its principles and it explains each one of them and it explains how we can apply the doctine in our lives. It’s to help me and myself and newer missionaries and new converts to the church learn the basic doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I have finished 3 pages and I’m just getting started. I write and study and it’s what I do during the night and in my personal study times. The doctrine comes right out of of Preach My Gospel and it’s really awesome! Maybe someday the church will publish for me! 🙂
About the people that are getting married  – we have planned their wedding for the following week and also their baptism and hopefully everything will go well. I’m in the middle of sending some fotitos!
