February 16, 2015 – Week 18

This week has been very awesome. First of all this is going to sound very bad but it was really, really funny. So the other day there was this dead dog in the road on this hill and it was smashed to peices and blood was everywhere. Two hours later we passed by that place again and we heard this person calling for their dog, “Rosi, Rosi” (this person pretty much rejected us like 3 weeks prior – she was one of our investigators) then she came out into the road and she saw the dog. She went up to it and was calling its name because she thought it was asleep. Her kids came out and they were really young like 3 and 4 and they were saying “Rosi, Rosi.” in this really sad voice and they figured out it was dead from all the blood. The kids started crying, and she was like “flip not again!” it was so funny because that dog was mangled! And I couldnt help but to walk away fast because I was laughing pretty hard.

Anyways this week has been awesome first of all we had TWO baptisms! I have pictures attached. It was awesome! I baptized the first person her name is Cecy and she got married the other day too. We couldn’t go to the ceremony, but she said there was an infinity of people there. Anyway, when I was walking into the font I freaking fell and slipped and I fell HARD! I just ate it on my butt, but it was all good. We went on with the ordanance and it was beautiful and I felt the spirit very strongly.
Today my companion left to Ensenada and I received a new companion, Elder Ortiz, and he’s freaking awesome! We’re gonna baptize 15 here in this transfer, its our goal.  He’s from Oxaca, Mexico – it’s in the deep south, and he’s really awesome. He’s dedicated just like me. Also our bishop kicked us our of ward counsel so we don’t go anymore. I don’t know what’s the deal, but it is what it is.
I’m doing really well and I’m really happy.  I took this stress test and it said I was out of this world stressed and I need to talk with my mission president, but I feel fine now. My Spanish is pretty well according to my new companion and he said my accent is almost perfect which is something that I’m pretty grateful for.  Hopefully, I can be fluent in two more months and I feel that I will be.
That is freaking sick that jeff gordon won the pole! I can’t believe that happened!  Tell me who wins – I’ll be praying for him and I’ll need NASCAR updates now since it’s that time again.  Also there is NASCAR Mexico which is pretty cool, but it isn’t that popular I don’t think.  Love all of you and I hope everything is going AWESOME! I also need updates on Basketball and NCAA BASKETBALL send me a bracket. LOVE YOU

February 9, 2015 – Week 17

This week has been really good and I had a pretty good birthday. Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I can’t believe I’m 20 years old now, I’m no longer a teenager! It feels pretty great. I started my reading in the Book of Mormon for the last time in English. This past week I started 3 days late but it’s okay because I’m already 1/4 of the way done. I’ll be done with Mosiah tomorrow night. I’ve been praying a lot to have some great success here in the mission and I don’t feel like much has happened in the meantime for this, but I feel like the Lord had answered my prayer and I found my answer while reading the Book of Mormon this morning.

I was pondering deeply on the subject of why we haven’t had a baptism, nevertheless bringing our investigators to church (well at least all of the ones that have progressed more than others). I never realized that my answer can be found in Jacob 5. it’s in verses 47-50. It says

“But what could have done more in my vineyard? Have slackened mine hand, that have not nourished it? Nay, have nourished it, and have digged about it, and have pruned it,and have dunged it; and have stretched forth mine handalmost all the day long, and the end draweth nigh. And it grievethme that should hew down all the trees of my vineyard, and cast them into the fire that they should be burned. Who is it that has corrupted my vineyard?

48 And it came to pass that the servant said unto his master: Is it not the loftiness of thy vineyard—have not the branches thereof overcome the roots which are good? And because the branches have overcome the roots thereof, behold they grew faster than the strength of the roots, taking strength unto themselves. Behold, say, is not this the cause that the trees of thy vineyard have become corrupted?

49 And it came to pass that the Lord of the vineyard said unto the servant: Let us go to and hew down the trees of the vineyard and cast them into the fire, that they shall not cumber the ground of my vineyard, for have done all. What could have done more for my vineyard?

50 But, behold, the servant said unto the Lord of the vineyard:Spare it little longer.

I hope this makes sense to yall, and I’m sorry this is in 2 different types of fonts. I feel like I’ve done all that could possibly do here in the vineyard (in La Morita, or Terrazas ward), but as it says in verse 50 I felt that I need to spare it a little longer. Just like the servant had said. We are about to have companion changes this coming Monday and I’m here probably for another 3 months. In this time I think the Lord is trying to tell me to keep working and have faith and fruit will start to form in my vineyard (people coming to church and having baptisms and helping hundreds come to Christ.)

Let’s continue to read here in verses 70-74.

70 And it came to pass that the Lord of the vineyard sent his servantand the servant went and did as the Lord had commanded him, and brought other servantsand they were few.

71 And the Lord of the vineyard said unto them: Go to, and labor in the vineyard, with your might. For behold, this is the last time that shall nourish my vineyard; for the end is nigh at hand,and the season speedily cometh; and if ye labor with your might with me ye shall have joy in the fruit which shall lay up unto myself against the time which will soon come.

72 And it came to pass that the servants did go and labor with their mights; and the Lord of the vineyard labored also with them; and they did obey the commandments of the Lord of the vineyard in all things.

73 And there began to be the natural fruit again in the vineyard; and the natural branches began to grow and thrive exceedingly; and the wild branches began to be plucked off and to be castaway; and they did keep the root and the top thereof equal, according to the strength thereof.

74 And thus they labored, with all diligence, according to the commandments of the Lord of the vineyard, even until the bad had been cast away out of the vineyard, and the Lord had preserved unto himself that the trees had become again the natural fruit; and they became like unto one body; and the fruits were equal; and the Lord of the vineyard had preserved unto himself the natural fruit, which was most precious unto him from the beginning.

Woah… I thought when i read this. When we obey the commandments of the Lord and work with ALL OF OUR MIGHT MIND AND STRENGTH. This is the last time I’m here in this vineyard and eventually I will have more fruit and no more of the bad trees will be here and they will hewn down and cast into the fire.

The Lord does answer our prayers in many ways and in many ways that we are not looking for or expecting for. I decided to have this Book of Mormon challege like 3 weeks ago and today I found my answers to my prayers. The Lord is inspiring me to do the things that I have chosen to do. I hope this makes sense!

I love all of you and i feel like my Spanish here pretty soon is about to sky rocket and I’ll be able to speak all this jibber jabber flabber here pretty soon. I’m starting to speak faster and to hear clearly. I had a good fast yesterday too and to have 2 baptisms this week (we have 2 people that are ready) and to learn the language more perfectly.

Also things have changed in our ward. It’s at 9 am starting next Sunday. He changed the start time to 9am because it gives people an extra hour on Sunday to do thier home teaching. First of all home teaching isn’t only just on Sundays. And second, people here only have one family to teach and nothing more. If you can’t visit someone 1 time for 30 minutes one day per week, it is sad and they need to work harder in the Lord’s vineyard. But it is what it is. Yesterday was good because this family (Morales family) bought me a chocolate strawberry cake and it was freaking good! I have pictures, but they are on another elder’s camera but I’ll send them soon! We’re going to Dairy Queen to buy an ice cream cake today and it’ll be sweeeeeet!! Les Amo mucho

February 2, 2015 – Week 16

Okay heres the SCOOP!
This week I got your birthday package, but I didn’t get grandma’s. Hopefully I will this week! The birthday package was absolutely awesome and I love the ties and the juggling balls. I’ve been practicing haha! I’ve been slacking on the pics lately, but I will catch up here pretty soon.
This week was freaking awesome! We had stake confrence and we got a new stake president, Presidente Valdez. He’s 27 years old!!! It’s really exciting and he’s powerful. He was the branch president in one of the branches here. He was president because he was the only one in the branch with the priesthood.  We also had the president of the area here and he spoke and it was great. His name is Benjamin de Hoyos and I got to shake his hand twice and me and my companion said that we felt the spirit automatically. It was great. Also, our mision president spoke and the temple president of San Diego spoke and he’s white and still knows Spanish from his mission, I think. It was a great conference!
Me and my companion have been getting along really well lately and that’s another thing that I have been praying about. You’re right, nothing is too great or too small for the Lord. We have transfers in two more weeks and he’ll be going somewhere else and I will be staying here.  There isn’t anymore problems with the ward with me (at least I hope not) and everything has been going good. I left this part out when I wrote last week. One of our investigators, her name is Cecy, we are getting her and boyfriend married on Valentine’s Day and we also have a date for her baptism on the same day.  Hopefully everything is good for the baptism, everything is for the marriage and it’ll be sweet! We’ve been finding a lot of new investigators and have been working really hard. I’m still having a hard time with the language, but I’m starting to understand more and more and more.
Today we played soccer with a bunch of people and it was a lot of fun. We didn’t have a ball so I bought one at the store. It was a really good one, my companion said, but it wasn’t really expensive. It was gerat while it lasted! haha This guy power kicked it and it flew into some neighborhood and it was lost haha. So one of the hermanos that was with us playing pretty much told them that they have to give me their ball, (it’s a peice of crap) since they lost mine. I felt really bad by taking it because the people here don’t have a lot of money to buy another one.  I still feel bad about it, but I took it because he said it was fair. haha They all left to go look for my ball that was lost, there was like 7 of them and they probably found it and now have the better one. Oh well … maybe they’ll be happy about it.
Holy mother flipping of flip Seattle is absolutely stupid for doing that! I’m so glad that the Patriots won that game even though I completly hate both of them, and especially Tom Brady, but that loss makes me hate Seattle more. Also, who won the national championship? I forgot to ask.  Thanks for the letter Dad.  I don’t have too much time to write, but I wrote mom. It’s very important that we never give up.  It’s kinda like the grace of Christ – we do what we need to do, give it all we got –  absolutely everything, and the grace of Christ makes up ALL THE DIFFERENCE. Tell Lauren that’s the best birthday present ever (the UT hat signed by Dale Earnhardt, Jr.) Thank you so much for the Dale, Jr. autograph! I might as well go for him since Jeff is leaving!
Anyways love you so much. Hopefully everything is going great.
     Te Quiero Mucho!
